Ibiza isn't a place that happens to have clubs. The clubs are the whole reason 3.28 million people land on this 220-square-mile rock every year. It is the closest thing dance music has to a capital city, and it runs on its own calendar: superclub residencies from May to early October, sunset rituals on the west coast, and after-parties that quietly hand you back to daylight. Come for a long weekend and you will be planning the next trip on the flight home.

The party scene

The headline rooms - Pacha, Amnesia, Hï Ibiza and the open-air Ushuaïa - book the DJs that top the global rankings, while DC-10 and the Playa d'en Bossa beach clubs carry the daytime. San Antonio's west coast is the budget-friendly, sunset-strip side of the island; Ibiza Town and Playa d'en Bossa sit closest to the big venues.

When to go

The club season is firmly summer: opening parties land in late May, peak heat and headline residencies run June - September, and closing parties stretch into the first week of October. Outside that window most superclubs are shut.
